Managing Type Station

In this article, you will learn how to create Type Station sections, manage Type Station curriculum, and keep track of Type Station progress.

Creating a Type Station Section

  1. Navigate to your Educator Portal homepage and click "Manage Sections."new manage sections II


  2. Click "New Section."

  3. Scroll down to the Platform drop-down and select "Type Station (keyboarding)." This will direct your students to Type Station when they log in.

  4. Fill out the remainder of the settings and click "Save." For more information on creating a section, click here.

 

Students can also access Type Station through Voyage or Launch Pad.

 

Type Station Settings

From your Manage Sections page, click the blue keyboard icon to open Type Station Settings for any of your classes.

This window allows you to set:

  • Target WPM
  • Target Accuracy
  • Maximum Assessment Attempts

  • The section on the right-hand side allows you to toggle the following settings:
    • Allow restart
    • Allow sounds
    • Allow live stats
    • Allow backspace for paragraph mode
    • Show keyboard on screen

  • The bottom section of this menu allows you to manage Type Station curriculum:
    • Clicking the "Lock/Unlock all" button toggles all Type Station lessons at once. 
    • Click the button to the right of a unit name to lock or unlock that unit's content.
    • To view all lessons in a unit, click the unit name to display all available lessons

  • Once you update your settings, click "Save changes" in the top right corner of the menu.

 

Type Station Progress

  1. To view student progress for Type Station, click "Student Progress" on your Educator Portal homepage.

  2. Click the "Type Station" tab.

  3. On this page, you have access to the Unit View and Lesson View.

Unit View

Within the Unit View, you have access to average accuracy, average words per minute, unit progress, and lesson completion information.  To view more in depth information on each lesson, click the "Lesson View" tab.

 Lesson View

Within the lesson view, you have access to a number of data points:

  • Lesson start information
  • Lesson completion information
  • Accuracy percentage
  • Words per minute
  • Number of attempts
  • Lesson duration (in seconds)
  • Most missed key
  • Slowest key

Remember that Type Station requires a device with an external keyboard.
