How to Give Full Keyboard Access on an iPad

Some Skill Struck activities, such as typing games and Type Station lessons, require an external keyboard if using an iPad. This article explains how to ensure your iPad recognizes it.

  1. Double-check that your external keyboard is connected to the iPad. 

  2. a. If connecting using a magnetic stand, the iPad should connect automatically. 

    b. If connecting via Bluetooth, be sure the keyboard is listed and connected in the Bluetooth settings of the iPad.
  3. Once your keyboard is connected, navigate to the Settings app on the iPad.

  4. Select Accessibility.

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the right-hand list, and select Keyboards and Typing.

  6. Make sure that Full Keyboard Access is turned on. If it is turned off, Type Station will not recognize any input from the keyboard.

  7. Make sure the other keyboard settings are turned off: Key Repeat, Sticky Keys, Slow Keys.
